Internet-Based Testing

Taking Computer-Based Testing to the Web

CASTLE Worldwide was one of the first certification and licensure firms to see how the Internet could have a significant and positive impact on the the way examinations are delivered. Internet-based testing is quite similar to computer-based testing in that the examinations are delivered via computer, answers are noted via computer, and scoring is accomplished via computer.

Internet-based testing takes full advantages of today’s sophisticated technology. The examination data is delivered via a secure, password-protected website. The examination and the candidate's answers are constantly uploaded to the test provider's secure server. Test security is assured through configuration management and controlled loading and availability.

Here are just some of the advantages of IBT:

  • Proprietary content delivered directly to clients and their candidates any time of day, anywhere in the world.
  • Video and high-resolution graphics.
  • Text presented in mixed formatting.
  • Upload changes, scoring data updates, and content code and key modifications.
  • More flexible exam scheduling.
  • More test locations.
  • Faster score reporting.
  • Reduced costs.
  • Use of a wide variety of question types.

Testing Worldwide

The CASTLE Worldwide testing software allows us to distribute certification and licensure examinations online to any proctored test site in the world that has Internet access.

We can also administer examinations, through a secure internet connection, to a client's place of business. Non-proctored exams can be accessed and taken via the Internet at literally any time and in any place.

Software Built by CASTLE Worldwide

At CASTLE Worldwide, we use our own system for test delivery. Proctored Assessment System (PASS) was developed in 2001 by our own staff to take advantage of today's Intranet and Internet technologies. It was the first system in the industry to use Internet delivery.

The PASS system is proprietary software and is hosted exclusively by CASTLE Worldwide. It is used at our own established Internet-based testing centers and serves as the delivery engine to any proprietary client networks.

Candidates Prefer IBT

PASS is very easy to use and requires no prior computer experience to operate. Our demonstration module walks candidates through all of the system's features and functionalities and allows them as much time as necessary to become completely familiar with the system.

In addition, PASS permits candidates to skip questions, go to previously answered items, mark items for later review, go to specific items, and review answers before submitting the test for scoring.

More Flexibility for You

PASS can accommodate a variety of testing formats, including multiple-choice, drag and drop, case study, and simulation problems. It can handle multiple languages - even character languages such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean. It's fully functional on diverse hardware and software configurations. And system requirements are minimal - Internet access with either Microsoft Internet Explorer (6.0 or higher), Mozilla Firefox (1.0 or higher), or Netscape Navigator (7.0 or higher).

Extra Features

PASS records the number of times a candidate touches each item, the time spent on each item, changes to answers given, and whether or not an item was marked. This information provides a basis for sophisticated statistical analysis. In the unlikely event that Internet connectivity is lost, it enables the system to return candidates to the exact spot in the examination at which they performed their last key stroke.
