Security: Identity and Biometrics
Protecting the integrity of your examinations is one of Castle’s top priorities. Castle employs the following multi-layer security approach to ensure the optimal secure environment for your examinations:
- All examinations delivered in Castle Worldwide’s test sites are administered in actively proctored environments using secured software. A proctored environment allows proctors to quickly intervene when suspicious behavior occurs or when candidates need assistance.
- Our trained proctor’s validate every candidate’s government-issued credentials through an efficient and secure multi-step process.
- Castle’s highly secure online delivery system never downloads your content onto the computer or leaves any trace of the examination on the PC.
In addition to the proctor’s important work in validating the test taker’s identity through their government-issued photo ID, Castle offers two other biometric methods to accurately authenticate candidates.
It’s important that organizations understand the true security value of biometric security measures as they evaluate different offerings. Most delivery channels currently collect biometric data, such as fingerprints and palm vein scans, for the first time when the candidate reports to the test site. This method of collection does not provide any opportunity for the data to be verified. To be truly beneficial, biometric data must be initially collected at the time of application and then verified throughout the testing and credentialing cycle. Castle’s solutions close this security gap for our clients.
Voice Biometrics (Voice Recognition)
Castle uses voice biometric technology to strengthen the security associated with validating the candidate’s identification. Upon receipt of their notice to schedule testing, candidates navigate to Castle’s voice print authentication Web site (via URL) and follow the quick and simple two-step process:
1. Enter the phone number at which they are able to receive a call from the automated voice biometric system
2. Receive an immediate call, which lasts approximately 60 seconds, in which they are prompted to:
a. Enter their unique confirmation number
b. Speak a series of numbers
c. Speak a second series of numbers
The candidate’s unique voice characteristics are then analyzed and stored in our secure database. When the candidate arrives at the test site on the scheduled test date, the proctor will prompt the candidate to call the toll-free number to submit another voice sample. This voice sample is immediately analyzed to determine whether it matches the voice characteristics of the original sample. If the candidate’s voice is authenticated, the candidate’s password is activated for the testing session. If the second voice sample is not accepted, the candidate’s password will not be activated and the proctor will contact Castle to verify the candidate’s identity through other means.
Voice biometrics is more effective than other methods because it requires zero equipment to be installed and/or maintained (which can malfunction or break), candidates find it less threatening than leaving fingerprints, the sample collected at the test site is validated against data collected at the time of application, and it is as reliable in identity authentication as fingerprints and palm vein scans.
Photo Biometrics (Photo Image Tracking)
Castle also offers photo biometrics, which incorporates the candidate’s photograph into his/her permanent demographic record. The candidate submits an electronic photograph during the application process. Castle retains the photograph in the candidate’s permanent record and will incorporate the photo on the candidate’s confirmation notice/admission ticket to the testing site. The candidate’s photo will be displayed on the computer screen during the proctor check-in process, during the testing session, and the testing organization may integrate the photo into the candidate’s score report and final certificate. Including the candidate’s photo on the candidate’s score report and / or the certificate provides strong evidence that the candidate who sat for the examination is the one actually practicing as a certified professional.
By combining voice recognition and photo imaging collected at the time of registration with active, onsite proctors validating government-issued photo IDs, the four critical elements to security and identity assurance are combined. Castle offers the most reliable, consistent, and cost-effective biometric security solution available in our industry.
